Dig Deep: Building a Life That Lasts

Think for a moment about that image Pastor Scott gave us at the start, the house, dug deep, settled on rock. Not just a house standing tall on a calm day, but one that survives the flood. He pointed out the difference between surface faith and foundations built into something solid.

You might be feeling the ground shift right now: news stories that leave you cold, arguments that wear on your heart, the quiet drift of your own certainty. Maybe you sense the culture’s storms swirling into your living room, or maybe the trouble comes from inside, doubts, weariness, the temptation to give up on church or faith altogether. The challenge is to dig deep, letting God's word cut down past what is just familiar, into what is truly alive.

The world is loud with new versions of truth, and sometimes even the church can swap out foundations for something easier or more popular. Pastor Scott didn’t flinch from saying it: there will be times when rebellion and empty promises try to sweep even faithful people away. Yet the calling isn’t to figure out every detail or guard ourselves by fear. It is to trust that, as we dig deep into Christ, we find the only place that lasts when the waters rise.

Meditation Focus: What or who is setting your foundation these days? Slow down, and name whatever threatens to leave your heart unsettled. Invite God’s steadying word into that precise place.

Practical Step: Take ten minutes this week, maybe just one morning before the emails or chores begin, to sit quietly with a passage like Luke 6:46-49 or Romans 12:1-2. Ask God not just to inform you, but to search you and plant his word deep, even where it challenges or disturbs. Let truth shape you, not just reassure you.

Father, you are holy, good, and faithful when the world feels uncertain. You alone are the true ground beneath our feet.
We admit how easily we are shaken, distracted, and swept up in what is passing. Let your will shape not just our thoughts but our whole lives, even when the rest of the world chooses shortcuts or empty promises. Feed us with your word. Make space in our hearts for what is alive and sharp and clean, not what is shallow or afraid.
Forgive us for wandering, for loving comfort more than your voice. Help us forgive each other when we fail to live up to Christ, reminding us each one is precious and growing. Lead us out of places where lies or fear take hold. Anchor us by your presence, strengthening us for every storm.
