In Spite of Your Past
A short midweek reflection to carry into your week.
Even in the messiest parts of your story, God is still drawing you into his purpose and family.
Scripture
The Scarlet Thread in Your Story
You may not have a crimson cord hanging from your window, but chances are you know what it feels like to want a sign that grace can find you too. Maybe there's something in your past, something old, something everyone knows, or something nobody does, that lingers like a closed door. After Sunday, we have to ask ourselves: what does it really mean for God to use people 'in spite of' what everyone else sees as unworthy?
Rahab could have kept her head down. Instead, she tied that cord in the window, a tiny act of courage and trust. She believed that God could bring rescue, not just for her, but for her whole messy family. That cord did not erase her story; it declared that her story could be redeemed.
You are not invisible in a crowd. God seeks you out, not when the shame is covered up, but right in the place where you fear you’re disqualified. The same Jesus who sat by the well and knelt in the dust offers presence and purpose to you, now. His family has always been made of unlikely people.
Meditation Focus: Grace meets us where we are, not where we wish we were.
A Small Step: Take a moment today to pray honestly about one area where you feel unworthy or overlooked. If you feel safe, share this with someone you trust in our church family, and invite them to pray for you too. Let yourself be received.
Prayer
God in heaven, you are holy, beautiful, and strong beyond any weakness I carry. You are the King who sits with the searching and the hurting, and you do not leave us nameless or alone. I give you my future, my hurt, and even my secrets, asking you to use whatever I offer for your good purposes. Provide for us today, let your care be tangible in our homes and in our church. Where I remember shame or regret, wash me clean and help me forgive others as you forgive me. Guard us from the voices that accuse, and keep us from going back to places you have freed us from. Make me a witness to your grace, not in spite of who I am but because you claimed me first. Amen.
