Overcoming Fear and Self-Preservation
A short midweek reflection to carry into your week.
A midweek reminder to examine what holds us back from obeying Jesus and to ask for courage to follow Him boldly.
Scripture
Romans 12:1-2
A Living Sacrifice [1] Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. [2] Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Core Theme: Trusting God's Way Over Our Own Safety
Just as Pastor Scott reminded us, it's easy to let fear or the need to protect ourselves rule our decisions. But Jesus calls us to offer ourselves as living sacrifices (Romans 12:1-2), renewing our minds and trusting that God is truly our light and salvation (Psalm 27:1).
Application Prompt: Take time today to honestly notice any fears or need for self-preservation that might be shaping your choices. What step of obedience is God inviting you toward, even if it feels risky?
Prayer: Lord, help us to trust You more than we fear for our own comfort. Give us strength and courage to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow You wherever You lead. Thank You that You are our light and salvation. Amen.
