Where Courage Meets Care

You might remember a moment in the sermon when Moses’ mother looked at her newborn son and weighed the world’s threat against a mother’s love. Her actions were not loud or dramatic; they were desperate, creative, and rooted in the quiet urge to save a child entrusted to her care.

Maybe you find yourself at the edge of doing something risky out of love this week. You see a friend or neighbor’s child in need of encouragement, a coworker who seems weighed down, or even a stranger whose story tugs at you. The world offers endless reasons to keep to yourself. "It’s not your place." "Mind your own business." "Protect your own comfort." Yet the Spirit grooms us to hear a different call, the invitation to step toward someone with unguarded care, not because it is safe, but because it matters.

Ask yourself: What would it look like for you to build a little 'ark' out of what God has placed in your hands? It might not be a literal basket on a river, but it could be a gesture, a meal, a willingness to be present. Sometimes, real courage looks ordinary: showing up when you could walk away, speaking the word no one else says, offering hope when the world expects silence.

Take this with you today: Love that overcomes fear does not wait for bravery to feel easy, it acts before comfort is found.

A step for your week

Watch for the 'Miriam moment.' When you notice a need or an ache, big or small, pause and pray, "God, show me what small thing I can do." Then, trust that your ordinary courage is enough. Respond. Reach out in faith.

Closing Prayer

Lord, you are always near, attentive to every cry, every hidden loss and every step of hope. You are holy, and we long for your ways to take root in our lives. Break through the patterns that keep us safe but numb, and teach us to want what you want instead of what seems comfortable. Today, we ask for enough daily grace to see not just our own needs, but the faces of those you have placed around us. Remind us that you forgive what we have left undone and that you always call us forward anew. Where fear stirs and risk feels heavy, deliver us into boldness that trusts your goodness as we act in ordinary, loving ways. We walk with open hands, trusting you to bring life from our small faith. Amen.
