When Your Faith Feels Small

Most of us have moments, like the disciples at the bottom of the mountain, when we look at the challenge ahead and wonder, "Could God really use me for this?" Maybe you feel too ordinary, or past disappointments keep whispering that your faith is not enough. Pastor Scott Uselman pointed to Jesus' words about mustard-seed faith, a faith that seems tiny but is enough when placed in God’s hands.

When you face something impossible this week, a conversation you dread, a task you feel underprepared for, a loved one’s pain you cannot fix, remember the surprise at the heart of the story: Jesus did not wait for the disciples to become strong. He responded to the father’s plea and stepped in, even as his disciples faltered. His words to them were not dismissal, but invitation.

You are not measured by the size of your confidence. You are measured by the willingness to bring all you have, even what you think is not enough, to the One who works through you. Like Pastor Scott Uselman shared, often it's in the moments when you feel the least prepared that God can work most powerfully. Your presence, your prayer, your act of kindness or truth: these may be the tools God uses for something bigger than you can see now.

Meditation focus: "Jesus, help me trust you with the little faith I have, and take the next step even when I feel small."

Practical step: Today, take one small action in faith, offer to help someone, pray for a need you can't solve, or start what’s on your heart. Trust that God can use your step.

Prayer:

God, you are so much bigger than the limits I put on myself and on you. You see what I cannot. I place you in the center, looking to you first. Where my will is stubborn or full of fear, I lay it down and ask you to shape my desires in line with your kingdom. Give me what I truly need for today, wisdom, patience, courage for the task ahead. I ask for your mercy where I have doubted or turned back, and grace to forgive myself and others who have stumbled. Keep me from the voices and habits that try to shrink my trust or tempt me to believe I am disqualified. Lead me into the kind of living where even my smallest step becomes part of your work. I want to trust you, in the impossible and the everyday. Amen.
