Have You Felt His Grip?

Think back to the image Chuck showed us, one person taking firm hold of another, both hands clasped, no bit of the body left unconnected. The question lingers as we step into our week: Do we live as people grasped by Christ? Or do we still try to wiggle free, offering only a finger, holding back parts of ourselves?

We talk easily of grace, but sometimes we quietly hope God will be gentle: that he will let us keep our respectable secrets, our small and tidy sins, our important preferences. But the grace that makes children of God is the same grace that doesn't let go, even when we resist. You were saved not because you simply drifted into God's arms, but because he pursued you fiercely and refused to let you stay as you were. Holiness is not an upgrade; it's a new creation.

Take a slow moment today. Imagine the hands of Christ wrapping round your own, not for punishment, but to pull you away from what would kill you and into abundant life. It can feel severe when it means letting go of habits or self-defenses, but his grip never means harm. It means safety, belonging, and hope.

Meditation Focus: Let yourself notice where you’re holding back from God, then imagine placing even that into his strong grip.

Practical Step: Before the day is done, name one place, no matter how small, where you know God has been asking for more honesty, more surrender. Don’t make a project of it. Just admit it quietly and pray, "Lord, you can have it."

Prayer

Living God, we pause and remember how great you are, the one who formed the universe and calls us your own children. Your holiness is both awe and invitation. We confess: there are places we’ve resisted, shielded, or explained away. Still, you pursue us. You provide what we couldn’t ever make for ourselves, a new heart, real hope, the possibility of becoming like Jesus. Forgive us for thinking small, for mistaking comfort for faithfulness. Where we’ve failed, wash us clean. Where we are afraid, strengthen us to trust your hold more than our grip on old habits. Let your Spirit lead us, nudge us, and sometimes even hem us in, so that we may walk in your light and bring you glory. Heal what needs healing within us and between us, and keep us close all the way home. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
